fter crossing the Noosa River by
ferry, our sandy 4WD adventure begins on Teewah Beach, along the
shores of the South Pacific Ocean. Driving along the beach we’ll see
and explore the renowned Teewah Coloured Sands with features such as
the Cathedrals, Snow on the Mountain and Red Canyon. 50 km up the
beach from Noosa, we visit the shipwreck of the Cherry Venture,
which makes a forlorn sight, left high and dry by a 1973 cyclone.
|
 |
Only 3 km further Teewah Beach ends
at Double Island Point. Here at the southern access gate, we take a short
stroll up the rocky headland, where from high above the waves, we often
see turtle, dolphin and Manta ray. From June to October, it is also
possible to see Humpback whales on their northern migration. Depending on
beach and/or tide conditions, we may use the northern access gate instead
but either way this is a very special experience, for most people.

s
we continue our journey, we travel along picturesque Wide Bay and
more Coloured Sands to Rainbow Beach township. This is where we
leave the beach behind and head inland to experience an ancient
rainforest.
|
This rainforest grows in pure
sand, which makes the variety, and beauty of the plant-life, seem even
more remarkable. From the massive canopy trees like the Purple Quandong,
to the smallest epiphytes and mosses, this ancient eco-system will charge
the senses and leave you with a sense of awe.
|
While you take a
leisurely walk under the towering canopy, your Aussie BBQ lunch is
prepared and ready on your return. After lunch we travel along
four-wheel drive forest tracks where different species of birds and
animals, are often encountered, on the way back to the beach, Noosa
and beyond…
